In a significant development at the State House in Freetown, His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio hosted a delegation led by Jennifer Overton, Regional Director of Catholic Relief Service, West Africa, and Ademola Ajagba, Regional Managing Director for Nature Conservancy.

The primary agenda was to update President Bio on the collaborative plans of both agencies in launching the Water Fund project.

The Water Fund project, a joint initiative by Catholic Relief Service and nature_org, aims to amplify investments in water preservation, safeguard humanity, and shield the ecosystem from the detrimental effects of climate change and inadequate sanitation.

Having previously received a report on the encroachment of the Greenbelt and Forest Reserve in the Western Area, President Bio’s government is actively engaged in addressing environmental concerns. The delegation sought government support in implementing the recommendations outlined in the report.

The Water Fund project, operating in partnership with the Sierra Leonean government, focuses on ensuring the preservation and provision of clean, potable water across the country.

President Bio expressed gratitude for the delegation’s efforts and affirmed the government’s commitment to providing necessary support to realize the vision of the Water Fund. This collaboration signifies a crucial step towards sustainable water management and environmental conservation in Sierra Leone.
