State House Press Secretary and Presidential Spokesman, Yusuf Keketoma Sandi has reacted to a post being circulated on social media reportedly stating the Sierra Leone Government’s position on the war in Ukraine and President Maada Bio’s plans to send troops into Ukraine to stop Russia’s invasion.
Sierraloaded previously reported that in the early hours of Thursday, February 24, 2022, Russian President, Vladimir Putin in a televised address announced a “special military operation” in Ukraine.
Shortly after his address, major Ukrainian cities such as Kyiv, Kharkiv, Mariupol and Dnipro were attacked. ‘Hundreds’ of Ukrainian troops were killed as bombs rained from the sky, while Ukrainian troops reportedly downed five Russian planes in retaliation.
Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy has also announced the country’s readiness to hand over weapons to citizens who are willing to defend themselves. But the world is not going to sit back and watch the crisis dovetail into a full blown war that’ll have to involve the rest of the world.
In a ‘false’ statement circulating on social media, the Government of Sierra Leone said; “The world woke up this morning to shock of the unprovoked attack by Russia on the peaceful country and people of Ukraine.
“The Government of Sierra Leone considers Russia’s action an attack on World order. There is no place for these types of actions in our civilized world. Invading other countries no longer has a place in international relations and politics, never again should the world accept this.
“The government and the people of Sierra Leone are with the people of Ukraine in these trying times. Sierra Leone stands ready to support the government and people of Ukraine and is willing to contribute military troops to any international military effort to put a halt to the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia.”
However, reacting to the press statement, Sandi wrote; “Please ignore the post below from the usual miscreants of mischief. It is both FAKE and FALSE. As you read any fake material, always remember this saying: “Fake people are like soap bubbles, they pop out when the sun shines brightly”.
It would be recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned other world leaders against interfering with the hostile position on Ukraine.
“To anyone who would consider interfering from outside: If you do, you will face consequences greater than any you have faced in history. All the relevant decisions have been taken. I hope you hear me,” Putin said.
