President Julius Maada Bio was recently seen at the Bo School Thanksgiving Celebration event in Bo, arriving in a brand-new 2025 Yangwang U8, a luxury SUV valued at around USD 150,000 (AUD 250,000).
The car, made by the Chinese automaker BYD Auto under its upscale Yangwang brand, drew attention due to its high-end features and price tag.
The SUV is equipped with advanced technology, including a 360-degree “tank turn,” the ability to float on water, and a hybrid electric system that extends its driving range. These features make it a standout vehicle in terms of performance and luxury.
It is believed that the vehicle was a gift from Gilbert Zhao, the CEO of Leone Rock Metal Group, a company involved in the mining sector in Sierra Leone. Zhao left the country shortly after the gift was presented, raising questions about the relationship between business and politics in the country.
People are reacting to Bio’s luxury SUV, especially given the contrast with the struggles of everyday Sierra Leoneans. As the president enjoys such wealth, many are asking how this aligns with the difficult realities faced by ordinary citizens.
Na una biznes? yu want mak ar return me gift? Idiot!!!
Our Africa leaders are always showing a high level of pregishness and they only bother about how they accumulate weath for their future generations to come. Having considered the day to day plight of we the ordinary citizens and we have our president displaying such a level of heartless attitude, is appalling to see.
Oh salon 😔
Live our dear President alone. When he was in London, with the first Lady, they lived in a council flat. They could not afford a bicycle let alone a car. They knew all the bus routes around the Walworth road and East Street area of South London. So let them enjoy their lives, they suffered for too long.
