Sierra Leone’s President, Dr. Julius Maada Bio, has on Wednesday, 17th December, 2025, presided over the inauguration of the new National Executive Council (NEC) of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), reaffirming the party’s commitment to national progress, unity, and discipline as it prepares for the upcoming 2028 elections.

Addressing a packed gathering, President Bio emphasized that the theme of the evening, “The SLPP: Preparing for the Sierra Leone We Are Becoming,” highlighted the party’s role as the nation’s moral compass.

Bio outlined his vision for the SLPP as a party of continuity, stability, and national progress, insisting that the party will present a clear, confident, and unstoppable agenda in 2028.

We have only one agenda: to ensure the SLPP remains the party of national progress,” President Bio declared. “As Leader, I set the political direction with passion, and in 2028, we will be proud to present the SLPP as the Party of continuity, the Party of stability, and the Party of national progress.

The inauguration ceremony also featured a glowing tribute to the newly appointed National Chairman of the SLPP, Jimmy Batilo Songa, whom President Bio described as a “battle-tested” leader with a proven track record of loyalty, discipline, and dedication to the party. President Bio commended Batilo Songa for his unwavering commitment to the SLPP and urged all party members to unite behind him.

Chairman Batilo’s loyalty to the SLPP has been tested and proven,” President Bio stated. “His discipline remains unquestionable, and his dedication to the ideals and progress of the party is unwavering. At a time when the party must remain focused and united, these qualities are critical.”

President Bio explained that, under the party’s leadership structure, the National Chairman is responsible for managing and coordinating the activities of the SLPP, while he, as the party’s leader and the President of the Republic, provides the political direction. The President further underscored the importance of respecting this leadership order, noting that the party functions best when unity and structure are maintained.

The strength and stability of the SLPP depend largely on the firmness of the chairman,” Bio added. “When the chairman stands firm, the party also stands firm. And when the party is steady, it becomes unstoppable.”

In his speech, President Bio called for party members to show respect for the party’s democratic structures, stressing that the unity and discipline of the SLPP had always been the cornerstone of its electoral victories. “Our greatest victories have never come from noise. Our success has always been built on unity, discipline, and a shared sense of purpose,” he remarked.

He also cautioned against internal confusion and division within the party, urging members to align with the singular SLPP agenda. “There is only one SLPP agenda,” President Bio stated. “Internal confusion and division weaken the party. When the leadership order is respected, the party remains steady, and when the party is steady, it becomes unstoppable.

In his closing remarks, President Bio encouraged SLPP members to recommit themselves to discipline in their language, respect in their disagreements, and unity in their mission. He emphasized that the party’s future success lies in its ability to move as one, guided by principles rather than provocations.

The SLPP is strongest when it moves as one, guided by principles rather than provocations, and by order rather than impulse,” he concluded.
