Honorable members of Parliament experience shortage of electricity as a result of power cut. This happens coincidentally when they were discussing the reasons for shortage of electricity in the capital and other parts of the country and how this issue can be resolved.
Honorable Abdul Karim Kamara is the Deputy Chairman of Youth Affairs Committee in the House of Parliament. He is also a member of four other Committees. Finance, NGO’s/NaCSA, Primary and Secondary Education and International Parliamentary Union Committees. Member Of Parliament for 059 Constituency, North-West Region. He was addressing the shortage of light when the Well of Parliament experience power cut.
“Mothers lost their children as a result of power cut” the honorable said, he added that “If this is happening in Freetown and the ministry is saying, there was fuel in the standby generator. I wonder what will happen in Port Loko, what will happen in Karene and what will happen in Kambia”. According to Hon Abdul Karim Kamara, if the country’s capital is facing this issue, then there is no hope for those living the upcountry as they mostly have less opportunities compared to the capital.
In 2021, the Capital city had also experienced blackout as a result of the government not paying the Karpowership as per agreement. This situation caused damages as perishable foods stuffs got spoilt as a result of lack of power supply to keep the refrigerators working.
In addressing the issue Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara said:
“Mothers lost their lives as a result of power cut. If this is happening in Freetown and the ministry is saying, there was fuel in th standby generator. I wonder what will happen in port Loko, what will happen in Karene and what will happen in kambia.
Mr. Speaker, what has just happened justify what I have been saying.”
