The Mayor of Bo City, Kobba Musa, alongside his Deputy, Her Worship Mrs. Hawa Campbell, the Chief Administrator Mr. Henry Powell, and the dedicated council staff, has expressed gratitude and pride in the city’s accomplishments in 2024 while unveiling an ambitious roadmap for 2025.

Delivering his New Year message, Mayor Musa outlined achievements across multiple sectors, highlighting the collective efforts of the council, its staff, and the community in driving progress.

2024 Achievements at a Glance

  1. Infrastructure Development:

The city saw the construction of 15 culverts and two key bridges, including those at Chinese Farm and Korwama Road, boosting connectivity and easing transport challenges.

  1. Enhancing Education:

Rehabilitation of three primary schools: RC Model (New Gerehun Road), Methodist (Dambala Road), and SLMB (Bompehun), providing improved learning conditions.

The fabrication of furniture for four schools, including Ansaru Mesima and New Apostolic, further enhanced classroom environments.

  1. Market Rehabilitation:

The Gbongo Market underwent a comprehensive renovation, including the construction of four storage facilities, invigorating trade and local commerce.

  1. Road Improvements:

Ballasting and grading of reservation roads established better links between the central business district and surrounding communities.

  1. Water and Sanitation Access:

Solar-powered borehole water systems were installed in strategic locations such as Gbongo Market, Gbotima Community, the Bo Government Hospital, and other areas, ensuring reliable access to clean water.

  1. Environmental Initiatives:

Contracts were awarded to 21 youth groups for climate-related projects, including tree planting, city beautification, waste collection, and public awareness campaigns.

  1. Staff Welfare:

Retired council workers were honored with the payment of retirement benefits, recognizing their contributions to the city.

  1. Security and Power Upgrades:

CCTV cameras were installed in and around the council office alongside solar electricity, ensuring enhanced security and uninterrupted power supply.

  1. Sports Development:

The inaugural Mayoral Veteran Football Competition was successfully held, with BoxPoint FC taking the championship.

Addressing Challenges

Despite these successes, Mayor Musa noted that the council faced challenges in 2024, particularly:

Improper Waste Disposal: The troubling trend of some residents relying on unauthorized individuals for waste disposal, leading to environmental and management issues.

Revenue Compliance: Insufficient revenue payment by residents, hampering the council’s ability to deliver efficient services.

Vision for 2025

Looking ahead, the Mayor called for greater collaboration between residents and the council to address these challenges. “Unity and shared responsibility are essential in overcoming obstacles and achieving our goals,” he emphasized.

The council’s 2025 agenda includes:

Strengthening waste management practices through community engagement,

Enhancing revenue collection systems to ensure sustainable service delivery and

expanding development initiatives to build on the gains of 2024.
