On Saturday, November 30, 2024, the Empower Well-being Network SL brought together women from various professions for a dynamic street workout initiative to promote physical fitness and health awareness.

The event, which began at Mobile, saw nurses, teachers, police officers, and other professionals jogging through Bo City’s main streets. The goal: to encourage regular exercise as a critical measure against lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity.

“Exercise is a powerful tool for improving health and well-being,” said one participant. “We, as women, must prioritize our health and lead by example.”

Founded on July 5, 2024, by Esther Mamasu Masallay, the Empower Well-being Network SL—formerly Pajeps Foundation—has rapidly grown in its mission to foster wellness. Saturday’s workout was a testament to the organization’s commitment to health advocacy, with enthusiastic participation reflecting a collective drive for healthier communities.

Paul Sengeh, CEO of Empower Well-being Network SL, praised the turnout and the event’s impact. “This initiative is about more than exercise—it’s about creating a culture of health and wellness. The women of Bo City have shown incredible resilience and dedication,” he stated.

The importance of regular physical activity was highlighted by Bandu Konnah of the Bo Government Hospital. “Exercise improves heart health, enhances mental well-being, and prevents chronic diseases like hypertension and diabetes,” she explained.

Civil Society Organizations (CSO) South Chairman, Joseph D. Blackie, lauded the event as a model for community-driven health advocacy. “This initiative exemplifies the power of collective action for societal benefit. We are committed to supporting future efforts,” he pledged.

Participants described the event as both empowering and unifying, with plans already underway for similar initiatives. The success of the street workout underscores the growing momentum for health advocacy in Bo City.

Empower Well-being Network SL remains steadfast in its mission to inspire women to prioritize their well-being, laying the groundwork for a healthier Sierra Leone.
