The Deputy Minister of Information and Civic Education, Bockarie Abdel-Aziz Bawoh, has issued a strong warning to citizens about a rising threat of internet scams, specifically targeting WhatsApp users.

The deputy minister’s alert came as part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to raise civic awareness in the country regarding online safety.

During his address, Bawoh asserted a troubling trend where scammers impersonate meeting organizers. Those fraudsters typically send a message inviting individuals to join an online meeting and request that they resend a verification code sent to their WhatsApp account.

“Once this code is shared, the hackers gain full access to your account and use your profile to deceive others,” Minister Bawoh explained.

The deputy minister emphasized the importance of vigilance among the public, urging them to be cautious and refrain from sharing verification codes with anyone.

“It is crucial to protect your personal information and account security,” Bawoh stated, reinforcing the need for awareness in the face of such scams.

The Minister concluded by encouraging all citizens to remain alert and report any suspicious activities related to their online accounts.
