The Chief Executive Officer of the National Public Procurement Authority (NPPA) Ibrahim Brima Swarray, has said that his institution has save the government and the people of Sierra Leone about Le1.4 Trillion.
The NPPA Boss made this revelation on Friday 9th September, 2022 during an engagement organized by the Independent Procurement Review Committee Panel (IPRP) in order for members of the private sector to familiarize themselves with the Panel.
According to Mr. Swarray, they are the only legitimate authority that is regulating and monitoring procurement issues in the country, as well as the Principal Adviser to the government when it comes to procurement issues in the country.
He said the NPPA Was established by an Act of parliament in 2004 but repealed in 2016, giving them more powers to combat dubious procurement activities.
According to the Chief Executive Officer, since 2018 till date, his institution has made a lot of gains citing the over 1.4 Trillion Leones they had saved Sierra Leone from losing, as well developing the Procurement Regulation in 2020.
He furthered that procurement is a profession which does not require the ordinary man to just peep into it but requires someone who is highly trained and qualified in the said field to do the job effectively.
Every quarter in the year, NPPA comes out with their price norm in order to adequately stabilize procurement issues in the country, adding that they will continue to uphold the Procurement Act for the benefits of the country.
