Voluntary caution statements related to the alleged theft of $7,000 from the residence of Sierra Leonean international footballer Kei Kamara were presented as evidence on Tuesday at the Pademba Road Magistrate Court in Freetown.

The case involves three live-in caretakers of Kamara’s Hill Station residence Abubakarr Turay, his wife Fatmata Bangura, and their daughter Kadiatu Turay who face charges of conspiracy and larceny under the Larceny Act of 1916. The alleged incident occurred on January 15, 2025, at Kamara’s Fadika Drive apartment.

Detective Andrew Nyakeh Amara from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters, Freetown West, testified before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah that he obtained voluntary caution statements from all three accused between January 20 and February 2, 2025. The statements, recorded in both Krio and English and either signed or thumb-printed by the defendants, were admitted into evidence as court exhibits.

During cross-examination, Detective Amara stated that one of the defendants denied taking the money but acknowledged working as a caretaker at the residence.

According to proceedings, Abubakarr Turay has pleaded not guilty to the allegations, while his wife and daughter admitted to the offence in their statements. The case is being treated as a preliminary investigation under the Larceny Act.

Magistrate Jah adjourned the matter to September 1, 2025, for continuation. Bail previously granted to all three defendants remains in effect.
