Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh convened a strategic meeting with the Sierra Leone Education Sector Support Project (SLESSP) team on November 6, 2024, at State House.

The high-level discussion focused on assessing the progress of education initiatives, addressing obstacles in project implementation, and accelerating delivery in alignment with the government’s commitment to transforming Sierra Leone’s education sector.

During the meeting, Dr. Sengeh reiterated the government’s unwavering prioritization of education as a cornerstone for national development.

He emphasized the importance of proactive collaboration and accountability among stakeholders to achieve the desired outcomes.

“Our children deserve better access to quality education, and it is our collective responsibility to deliver on this promise,” he stated.

The Team Lead of the Project Fiduciary Management Unit (PFMU), Mr. Mustapha Wai, provided a comprehensive update on the status of ongoing projects.

He highlighted that effective coordination between contractors, consultants, and project managers remains essential for overcoming delays and ensuring the efficient use of resources. Mr. Wai also pointed out the critical role of stakeholder engagement in meeting project timelines and achieving the objectives of the education agenda.

Adding to the discussion, Acting Project Coordinator Ing. Monica Sellu Kamara outlined the technical strides made in areas such as infrastructure development, teacher training, and provision of learning materials. She noted the significant milestones achieved but acknowledged pressing challenges, including resource allocation and site-specific hurdles, that require immediate attention.

Dr. Sengeh commended the team for their dedication and called for a solutions-driven approach to addressing bottlenecks. He stressed that the success of the SLESSP depends not only on timely implementation but also on its ability to deliver long-lasting impacts for students and educators nationwide.

The Sierra Leone Education Sector Support Project is a flagship program designed to enhance the country’s education landscape through targeted investments in school infrastructure, capacity-building for teachers, and access to essential learning resources.
