Founder and Managing Lead of Citizens’ Barray, Eleanor Thompson Esq., has outlined several ways public participation could have been strengthened to ensure citizens are adequately informed and engaged on the proposed Constitutional Amendment Bill.
Eleanor Thompson made the remarks today, Monday 27th July 2026, during an interview with Truth Media, where she discussed the importance of public involvement in the constitutional amendment process.
According to her, meaningful public participation is essential in ensuring that citizens understand the contents, purpose, and potential implications of the proposed legislation before it is considered for enactment.
She highlighted that wider public consultations, stakeholder engagements, community outreach programmes, civic education campaigns, and the dissemination of simplified information through various media platforms could have enabled more Sierra Leoneans to make informed contributions to the process.
The Citizens’ Barray founder stressed that constitutional reforms should be inclusive and transparent, noting that greater public awareness and engagement would help strengthen public confidence in the legislative process.
She further emphasised that encouraging citizens to participate in discussions on constitutional matters is vital to promoting democratic governance and ensuring that reforms reflect the views and aspirations of the people.
Her comments come amid ongoing national discussions on the Constitutional Amendment Bill and the level of public consultation surrounding the proposed changes.
