The Chairman of the Parliamentary Oversight Committee on Trade and Industry, Hon. Veronica Kadie Sesay has reportedly reject the donation of the twenty-five bags of rice from one of the rice importers they met with a few days ago in Parliament.
The Oversight Committee on Trade and Industry met earlier with rice importers at Parliament following reports that they want to increase the prices of rice.
Popular AYV Journalist Amadu Lamrana Bah states that She said her action is due to the viral and negative publicity that the issue has garnered, according to his colleague parliamentary reporter “I don’t want the rice anymore, let people don’t think I have been bribed,” she told Melvin, who is also the Publisher of the Parliamentary Update Group.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Trade and Industry brokered a crucial agreement with rice importers in a bid to address the escalating prices of rice.
The ministry, in collaboration with rice importers, pledges to closely monitor global market fluctuations, freight expenses, local transportation charges, and other cost determinants contributing to the surge in rice prices.
The Parliamentary Committee on trade comprises a small group of Members of Parliament created and empowered by Parliament of Sierra Leone to perform specified oversight function on trade issues in the country. Committees consist of Members drawn from recognized parties in Parliament.
