The United Nations Resident Coordinator in Sierra Leone, Dr. Babatunde A. Ahonsi has praised Sierra Leone Chief Justice, Desmond Babatunde Edwards on the frantic efforts he has been making to develop the country’s Judiciary.
Dr. Babatunde A. Ahonsi further enquired about the readiness of the Sierra Leone Judiciary to promote Electoral Justice in the country.
The Sierra Leone’s Chief Justice outlined his institution’s Preparedness. He highlighted challenges, especially logistics and finance. He further pointed out that despite the challenges, they wouldn’t prevent the Judiciary for doing it job for upholding Justice.
Hon. Chief Justice Edwards further confirmed the setting up of an Electoral Division of the High Court.
He added that the Judiciary is working in partnership with the UNDP for Support like the Printing of an updated compendium and the training of Judges before they are deployed.
Dr. Babatunde A. Ahonsi is the UN Resident Coordinator in Sierra Leone. He has more than 20 years of experience in international development. Most recently, he served as the acting UN Resident Coordinator in China until September 2020. Prior to this, he served as UNFPA Representative in China from January 2017 to June 2020, while concurrently serving as Country Director for Mongolia.
