This clearance was made in a release posted on their social media page, on 9 March 2023.
The Management of the Sierra Leone Correctional Service stated that its attention has been drawn to a post making rounds on Facebook and other social media platforms about the DG, alleging that he is allowing an inmate in the person of the former General Manager of Skye Bank, Ikubolaje Nicol, to sleep at his house every night.
SLCS informed that the Director General is a firm professional at what he does and will never condescend to the level of compromising security by doing what was alleged in the post, not for Bola or any other inmate.
They stated that the DG does not take orders from anyone regarding how he should handle inmates, noting that he has laws that he follows religiously in dealing with them.
The management sighted the lawful means through which the DG can allow any inmate out of any Correctional Centre; on production order from the Court, on Presidential Pardon, on the expiration of their sentence(s), and on being transferred to another Centre.
The Sierra Leone Correctional Service firmly stated that the DG cannot sacrifice his whole career on the altar of such a misguided and ill-advised practice.
They also stated that the allegation made against the DG tends to lower him in the eyes of the public, noting that it attracts legal attention in the form of Defamation (libel), for which legal action can be instituted against the author.
The management underscored that the author’s allegations have a huge public interest with the tendency to undermine the integrity and security of the State.
