Appeals Court Judge Hon. Justice Momoh-Jah Stevens sentenced George Adams to an unprecedented 150 years imprisonment for his role in an attempted coup in Freetown.
Adams was convicted on Tuesday, 10th December 2024 of multiple offenses, including treason, misprision of treason, and the murder of correctional service officer Isaac Johnson during the failed coup on 10th September 2023.
The court heard that the plot posed a serious threat to national security and led to the tragic loss of life.
Delivering the judgment, Justice Stevens imposed sentences of 75 years for treason, 5 years for misprision of treason, and 70 years for murder, ordering that they be served consecutively, resulting in a total of 150 years behind bars.
George Adams, a former military officer, ex-AFRC Minister, and member of the APC party was apprehended by the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) in March.
Adams, identified as one of the ring leaders of the failed coup attempt on November 26th, was captured in Makeni, along with two other individuals.
The operation leading to Adams’ arrest was conducted under the direction of North-East AIG Edward Samadia, showcasing a coordinated effort by law enforcement. Prior to his apprehension, rumors circulated that Adams had been living in Freetown, specifically around the Lumley and Laka areas. However, authorities successfully tracked him down as he entered Makeni between the 6th and 7th of March.
