Members of the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Sierra Leone have raised concern over the situation and happenings in the disputed Yenga community between Sierra Leone and Guinea.

The CSOs have strongly called on President Bio and his government to consider a change of approach to solve this problem immediately.

In his statement, Charles Mambu from the CSO said, different measure put in place by different governments spanning from former President Kabbah to now have proven futile which needs total consideration.

‘’The method has to change, we have not seen sincerity on the part of the Guineans in terms of leaving Yenga’’ he noted, maintaining that fresh moves have to be taken.

Giving out his projected approaches he said, there should be a thorough engagement with the Guinean Ambassador in Freetown, engagement with the Mano River Union (MRU), ECOWAS office and the Sierra Leonean community based in Guinea on the need for a peaceful settlement over this issue.

He frowned at deployment of the Arm Forces at Yenga by both countries as that can be prone to violence at any time, and that the two countries are interwoven and interconnected one way or the other, sighting the visit of the Guinean Junta Leader to the President of Sierra Leone which signalled a brotherhood connection between both countries.

Many individuals do believe that, as both leaders have military background this could be the right time to bring this issue to a permanent end than never.
