A nationwide curfew is expected to end on Monday morning as security forces in Sierra Leone continue their clamp down on unidentified gunmen who besieged the country’s capital on Sunday.

In a nationwide address on Sunday evening, President Julius Maada Bio said most of the leaders of the military have been arrested, adding that security operations and an investigation were ongoing.

“We will ensure that those responsible are held accountable,” Bio said in his address.

“As your commander-in-chief, I want to assure everybody who is resident in Sierra Leone that we have overcome this challenge,” he added, saying that calm had been restored.

Bio further urged citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with the security forces.

The Ministry of Information and Civic Education, representing the Government of Sierra Leone also issued a public notice to provide an update on the nationwide curfew imposed earlier.
Effective 6:00 a.m on November 27th, 2023, the indefinite curfew is officially lifted.

However, a new curfew is implemented, restricting movement from 9:00 p.m to 6:00 a.m every day, starting Monday, November 27th, 2023. This measure will remain in effect until further notice.

The Ministry expresses gratitude to the public for their cooperation and support of the security forces in swiftly addressing the situation. While citizens are encouraged to resume their normal activities from 6:00 a.m on Monday, November 27th, 2023, they are reminded to remain calm but vigilant.

The public is urged to report any suspicious or unusual activity to the nearest police station.
