The African Union delegation, together with ECOWAS has engaged the Political Parties Registration Commission of Sierra Leone (PPRC-SL) on their preparedness ahead of the June 24 general elections.

The delegation was headed by Ambassador Abdul M. Fatou met with the Chairman for the Commissioner, Abdul M. Bangura, and discussed how they have put mechanisms in place for the upcoming elections.

The chairman clearly explained their stands to the delegation by taking them through the provisions of the Political Parties Act of 2022,

The commission had before now engaged political parties on campaign mode and nomination criteria ahead of the elections which also led to the controversial agreement on the ban on rallies and to holding campaigns in designated areas with police providing coverage respectively.

There has been another engagement training involving the chairman of the commission at the GenCED ECOWAS training on mainstreaming women’s roles in political parties. A training that was aimed at ensuring women are given the space to be part of decision-making in political parties.
