Following the voting process in Sierra Leone on Saturday, June 24, 2023, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Union (AU) jointly issued a post-election press statement.

The press release commends the people of Sierra Leone for their strong commitment to democracy and their diligent fulfillment of their civic duties by participating in the voting process.

The release also express admiration for the voter’s discipline and the peaceful manner they conducted themselves during the voting process.

The missions in their release call on the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) to stand firm and fulfill its duties, without succumbing to pressure, to uphold the credibility of the institution and be accountable to the people of Sierra Leone.

It continued by also calling on the ECSL to undertake the tabulation process expediently and transparently within the provided time frame.

It concluded by expressing concern at the announcement of unofficial results by some political actors, and individuals and in this regard, urge all stakeholders to refrain from such action, reiterating that the ECSL is the only body authorized by the constitution and laws of Sierra to announce the results.
