The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has announced that more than 25 communities across Freetown are currently experiencing power outages due to burnt low-voltage panels and faulty transformers within the city’s distribution network.
In a public notice dated 16th February 2026, EDSA informed the general public that the outages affect several areas in the central and eastern parts of Freetown, as well as parts of the western end.
According to the Authority, the affected areas include PZ, parts of Regent Road, Back Street, Free Street, Short Street, Lumley Street, and part of Sackville Street. Communities connected to the Dock Yard MV feeder and other industrial areas are also impacted, including Akram, Slip Way, Kennedy Street, Benz Garage, Eastern Police, Savage Street community, the SLRSA area, PCMH community, BJMS community, Mabella community, and the Fourah Bay Road community.
EDSA further disclosed that a faulty transformer at Beckle Street has affected Beckle Street, Upper Congo Water, Upper Philip Street, Sorie Town community, and parts of Gloucester. In addition, a burnt low-voltage panel at Wilberforce Market has disrupted electricity supply to Wilberforce Market and the Wilberforce Village community.
The Authority stated that it has concluded investigations to determine the fault locations and identify the materials required to begin repairs and maintenance. Technical experts have already commenced work to address the issues.
EDSA assured customers that power will be restored gradually to affected communities on a daily basis as repairs progress. The Authority apologized for the inconvenience caused and thanked customers for their patience and understanding while efforts continue to improve service delivery.
