The Communications Manager of Electricity Distribution Supply Authority (EDSA), Sahr Nepor has refuted the claims involving the recent pattern of EDSA as the major cause of the massive fire outbreaks across Sierra Leone.
The Communications Manager’s response came amidst the dire public concerns to address the persistent fire outbreaks within the country, which has posed national threats to lives and properties.
Following the recent reports from the office of the Sierra Leone’s Chief Fire Officer, Nazir Kamanda Bongay, it was revealed that between January and March 2025, the Fire Force recorded 201 fire outbreaks nationwide, with Western Region recording 119, Southern Region 35, North-East Region 19, North-West Region 6 and Eastern Region 32.
In an effort to enlighten the public on the actual services provided by the EDSA, Sarh explained that the core responsibility of the EDSA is to ensure they “share and distribute” electricity to every Sierra Leonean across the country.
Following the many concerns regarding who or what is the actual cause to the frequent fire outbreaks, the EDSA Communications Manager addressed users saying, “Sierra Leoneans as well have the responsibility to ensure that they utilize the electricity responsibly.”
In his explicit explanation on the operations of EDSA, he said, “we take the electricity power from the pole, and send the main cable from the pole to the meter, which send feed to the distribution board, which is in every house.”
He furthered that the internal wiring of houses has no connection with the services of EDSA, posing that the fire saga has to do with standards, to which he claimed that many of the wiring in those homes are done by unprofessional local electricians.
He admonished every electricity user to seek professional electricians for wiring services in their homes, which he guaranteed as safe and reliable.
The Manager claimed that they have notice some homes having two connections on two transformers, which he said could also be as a result of the persistent fire outbreaks. He vehemently admitted that if any home is caught on such act, the Authority would take a legal action against them.
Legal actions against innocent homes or against your staff? Connections from two transformers are done by the so-called EDSA staff.
