The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has announced a series of unforeseen technical faults that have disrupted electricity supply in several parts of Freetown.
In a public notice issued on 21st November 2025, the Authority confirmed that its engineering teams are currently addressing the issues in order to restore normal service as soon as possible.
According to the notice, the affected areas span multiple zones of the capital. Along the Congo Cross axis, engineers are investigating an earth fault on the BATA Plastic Medium Voltage (MV) feeder, while a transformer terminal blast at Signal Hill Road and a broken MV jumper near Fadika Drive have contributed to the ongoing outage.

In the Wilberforce area, a broken 33kV transmission line along the Kingtom-Wilberforce Power Substation route has interrupted electricity supply from Goderich through to Sussex. Meanwhile, the Wellington area is experiencing power cuts due to a blast on the incomer terminations at the Kossoh Town Substation.
EDSA emphasized that technical teams have been deployed to all affected locations and are working to expedite repairs and restore power. The Authority apologized for the inconvenience and appealed for public patience as efforts continue to normalize electricity supply.
The announcement highlights the technical vulnerabilities within Freetown’s power distribution network and underscores the challenges EDSA faces in maintaining consistent service across the city.
