The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has issued a notice to its customers regarding several power interruptions affecting various parts of the country.
According to the authority’s latest daily network status update, Freetown and Kenema are currently experiencing significant power disruptions due to multiple network faults.
In Freetown, significant disruptions include:
- A faulty MV underground cable on the Technical/Brookfields interconnector.
- A faulty MV cable between PWD Pademba Road SS and George Brook.
- A burnt MV cable at May Street MV riser along Kingtom.
- A burnt MV ABC cable at Thompson Street.
- A burnt LV riser and cut cable at Williams Street.
- Ongoing earth investigation on the Barthurst 1&2 feeder.
- Stolen cable at upper New York garage PMT.
- Stolen cable from the Transformer at NATCO Local.
EDSA has indicated that these issues are expected to be resolved by January 16th, 2025.
In Kenema, the entire community is experiencing power outages due to:
- One faulty 1.6 Mega Volt Ampere power transformer.
- A faulty 250 KVA distribution transformer.
EDSA says it has implemented a local shedding program to mitigate the impact of these transformer failures while repairs are expected to be completed within one month.
