As June 24th 2024 marks exactly one year since the June 2023 election was conducted by the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone, the Commissioner, Mohamed Konneh gave an update and clarifications on the operations of the commission how they go about the election process.

Giving a press statement, he reiterated that, the day marked an anniversary for the commission which must be celebrated. He updated that, 2,789,808 voters were registered in the June 24th 2023 elections, adding that 52.88% were females and 47.12 % were male.

“The 2023 elections recorded one of  the lowest invalid votes consistent with the recent trend in the induction of invalid votes, 2007 recorded 7.30 %, 2012 had 4.70%, 2018 first round 5.20%, 2018 runoff 1.24% and 2023 we reduced it to 0.29%,” he stated adding that, it was due to the robust electoral strategy that was put in place as part of the 2018 elections observation mission recommendations .

He said individuals should praise the commission for the downward movement of invalid vote since 2007.

He added that, on Tuesday the 11th June 2024, the commission has submitted the annual and multitier elections report to President Bio, which is in line with section 32.12 of the constitution of Sierra Leone.

The report he said, is carefully prepared an also provides gender analysis of nominated candidates ,voter turnout as well as elected representatives adding that it highlighted status of the 2022 and 2024 strategic plan in providing indications of how far has the common progressed in implementing it electoral activities in the country
