The Deputy Minister of Energy II, Dr. Rahim Jalloh, conducted an inspection of the Bo-Kenema Network Rehabilitation and Expansion Project, aiming to ensure the project’s timely completion and assess its current status.

The initiative focuses on enhancing transmission and distribution lines within Bo and Kenema, with the goal of boosting access to dependable electricity for 12 communities while addressing the needs of emerging or underserved areas.

Following the inspection, Dr. Jalloh expressed satisfaction with the progress made by the contractors, stating that with what he had seen on the ground, he was confident that the project will be completed within the next couple of months. He also indicated that His Excellency the President, Dr. Julius Maada Bio is expected to attend the project’s commissioning soon.

“I will be furnishing my boss, Dr. Yumkella, with the outcome of my assessment visit or inspection tour. There are still a few Is to dot and Ts to cross before the commissioning of the project by His Excellency. This project will be massively strategic,” Dr. Jalloh noted.

Funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and the African Development Bank (AfDB), according to the Dr. Jalloh, the project is anticipated to transform the electricity quality and reliability in both districts. Dr. Jalloh emphasized that this would empower citizens to benefit significantly from the CLSG electricity supply.

In a related engagement, Dr. Jalloh visited the Bo Power Station, where he discussed recent challenges impacting electricity supply due to thunderstorms causing outages.

The Deputy Minister underscored the ongoing reforms in the energy sector, highlighting the essential connection between the energy sector and the Feed Salone agenda.
