In a drive to monitor and see for themselves the various development initiatives, the European Union Delegation to Sierra Leone has over the weekend ended a monitoring exercise in Pujehun District.

The exercise according to the head of the EU delegation Unfa Alie was to get a first hand information and see the various works the European Union through Pujehun District Council has done for the people of Pujehun District.

During their visit, the EU delegation paid a familiarization visit to Fonima town, Galinas Chiefdom where the Pujehun District Council through EU support constructed 21 lockable stores and a solarkiosk, Yonni town where they built solarkiosk, and Komala Road where they constructed a Modern Guest House.

In his statement, the representative of the European Union Ambassador, Unfa Alie said, he was impressed with the work done by the Pujehun District Council and said, it will stand a test of time.

He reaffirmed EU commitments to supporting the development initiatives in Pujehun District and said, the friendship between the European Union and the Government of Sierra Leone has been in existence over 30 years.

He said, the aim of the EU is to see development reaches every corner of Sierra Leone maintaining that, they will continue to provide a sustainable development to the country.

Highlighting some of the EU projects site, the Chief Administrator of Pujehun District Council, Sahr Emmanuel Yambasu said, the EU supported the Council to facilities developments in the district and constructed lockable stores, markets, community centers, solarkiosk and solar boreholes, constructed culverts and built bridges, constructed a Modern Guest House to be generating revenue for the Council, trained Council staff on governance and leadership, helped in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic among several others.

Speaking on the side of civil society organizations, the Chairman Civil Society Forum in Pujehun District, Ibrahim Borgiwa Swaray revealed that, CSOs have been part of the process from its inception to the current stage and expressed hope that, at the end of the day and in the name of human capital development, on one will be left behind.

In his maiden speech, the chairman of Pujehun District Council, Foday Kandeh Rogers expressed his profound gratitude to the European Union for the long term development they have brought in his district.

However, he called on the Union to provide their continued support to Pujehun District Council as they will ever remain to be proud of the development assistance.

On her side, the District Mammy Queen, Mamawa Kaikai on behalf of her colleagues women thanked the European Union for their unwavering support and said, all of the development are in their interest as women.
