A display of appreciation and recognition for his significant contributions to the National Remembrance Day, a delegation from the Ex-Servicemen Association visited the office of Inspector General of Police, Mr. William Fayia Sellu, on Wednesday, 8th November, 2023.
Led by Retired Lieutenant Colonel Sowa, the group conveyed gratitude and admiration for the Inspector General’s efforts in funding the country’s Poppy Week commemoration.
During the visit, Retired Lieutenant Colonel Sowa expressed the purpose of their presence, emphasizing the intent to decorate the Inspector General and acknowledge his pivotal role in supporting the National Remembrance Day Planning Committee. The Association aimed to honor IGP Sellu for his contributions, recognizing his unwavering support.
In response, IGP Sellu warmly welcomed the Association’s acting President, Retired Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Kamara, and the accompanying team to his office. Reflecting on his personal ties to the military, Sellu shared, “All of us are in this together as my father fought in the Second World War as a military man and later joined the Sierra Leone Police.”
Sellu expressed gratitude for the recognition, acknowledging that the previous Poppy Day celebration lacked representation in his office. However, he highlighted the collective nature of their efforts, stating, “We are all together,” and thanked the Ex-Servicemen Association for acknowledging both him and the Sierra Leone Police.
The visit symbolized a union of gratitude and acknowledgment, underlining the collaboration between the police force and the Ex-Servicemen Association in honoring the memory of fallen heroes on Remembrance Day. The Inspector General’s commitment to supporting this commemoration stands as a testament to the unity and mutual respect between the law enforcement sector and the ex-servicemen community.
