Two years have passed since the body of 22-year-old IPAM student Namisa Fatmata Kamara was found in a shallow grave at the Bobani-Browne compound in Sumaila Town on August 9, 2022.
Despite the time that has elapsed, her family continues to await justice for their daughter, according to a recent report by Politico newspaper.
According to Politico Newspaper, Mariama Kargbo, the mother of the late Namisa, expressed frustration over the lack of progress in the case. She explained that after the incident, the police took their statements and promised to follow up, but the family has yet to receive any updates from the authorities.
Mariama recounted that, after their initial interviews, the police informed them they had three sources and were waiting on just one more piece of evidence before pressing charges. However, she noted that the police only called her in for questioning once, during which she was told that one of the suspects, Patricia Bobani-Browne, had accused her of making threats. Mariama was subsequently cautioned to keep her distance from Patricia.
In a more recent development, Mariama mentioned that someone from the Human Rights Commission contacted her, stating that the matter was still under investigation and promising to reach out when there was a concrete development. She is now calling for justice, urging the authorities to ensure that the perpetrator(s) are held accountable.
Politico further reported that when they visited the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) earlier this month, they discovered that the officer previously handling the case had retired, and the head of the Homicide Unit had been transferred to another unit, although his transfer was unrelated to this case. The new officer promised to locate the file and assign the case to another investigator for further action.
Namisa was reported missing on August 1, 2022, and her body was discovered nine days later, sparking outrage and shock within the Sumaila Town community.
