Sierra Leone’s First Lady, Fatima Bio, has taken to the social media, Facebook to dispel a report linking to luxury villas and a flat in Banjul, The Gambia.

Taking pictures of houses and claiming the ownership without documentation as proof is poor journalism,” the First Lady noted.

Earlier, investigative media platform, Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) accused Bio of purchasing luxury villas and a flat in affluent Banjul communities. The report said that the Sierra Leone First Lady and family spent at least $2.1 million in purchasing the properties in The Gambia.

In the report, OCCRP said attempts to reach the First Lady and her husband, the President proved futile.

The investigation released several evidences linking the First Lady to the properties including social media posts of her son in one of the apartments in The Gambia.

The news has sent shockwaves among some Sierra Leoneans who are questioning the source of their income in purchasing the said properties.

Critics are raising concerns about President Julius Maada Bio’s commitment to combating corruption in light of significant allegations. Elected in 2018, President Bio made a promise to tackle corruption; however, recent reports have brought this commitment into question, highlighting the challenges his administration faces in addressing this ongoing issue.
