In recognition of her tireless efforts and transformative work, both locally and globally, in advancing social welfare, women’s empowerment, and children’s rights, Dr Fatima Bio, the First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone, has been awarded the prestigious title of First Lady of the Year 2024.

The award ceremony took place at the House of Commons, UK Parliament, during the 9th Annual London Political Summit and Awards 2024 on Wednesday 10th October, 2024. This award signals her ability to not only address pressing issues at home but also to elevate Sierra Leone’s voice on the global stage.

Her Excellency’s leadership has had a profound impact on numerous sectors in Sierra Leone, particularly her unwavering commitment to addressing gender-based violence, promoting girls’ education, and providing maternal health services.

Her flagship initiative, the “Hands Off Our Girls” campaign, has significantly reduced teenage pregnancy and child marriage and exploitation in the country, setting a powerful example for the rest of the African continent.

Internationally, she has advocated on platforms such as the United Nations and global summits, where her voice has amplified issues of gender equality, healthcare, and youth empowerment. Her ability to bridge the gap between local challenges and global advocacy has earned her admiration and respect across borders.
