The President, Julius Maada Bio after his re-election in the June 24th, 2023 presidential election, on the 10th of July 2023 made his first appointment featuring 7 women into the position of minister and deputy.

Some the appointees were in the previous administration but serving in different capacities.

In his previous administration, President Bio approved the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Act (GEWE) giving women 30% on all political appointments.

In his fulfillment, here are the women appointed so far:

Dr. Ramatulai Wurie was appointed as the Minister of Higher and Technical Education. She was serving as the Senior Lecturer and Multi-disciplinary researcher at the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences, University of Sierra Leone.

Another Substantive Minister is Ms. Manty Tarawalli, appointed as a Minister of State in the Office of the Vice President. She was serving as the Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs and a pioneer of the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment(GEWE) law.

Madam Jeneba Bangura, former Commissioner General of the National Revenue Authority has been appointed as Deputy Minister 1 of the Ministry of Finance.

Mrs. Francess Paigie Alghali who has been appointed as the Deputy Minister, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was serving as a Minister of State in the Vice President’s Office.

Madam Emily K. Gogra and Madam Mamusu Massaquoi maintained their position as Deputy Ministers one and two of the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education.

Madam Fatmata Wurie who has been appointed as Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, is the current Chairperson for the Washington Chapter of the Sierra Leone People’s Party.
