FG Gold, a leading mining company, held a two-day media event at its Bahommaun Mining Site in the Valunia Chiefdom, showcasing its commitment to transparency, sustainable practices, and community engagement.
The event, attended by journalists and key stakeholders, provided an overview of the company’s operations, environmental protection measures, and social impact initiatives. Notable attendees included Hon. Joseph Bash Kamara, Bo District MP; Hon. Sahr Lamina, Chairman of the Parliamentary Mines Committee; Abdulai Conteh from the Ministry of Labor; and Dr. Kelvin Anderson, Deputy Director-General of the Mines Agency.

Early achievements include the construction of a school, health center, borehole, and community center, all celebrated in a groundbreaking ceremony officiated by Paramount Chief Dr. Margaret Bayoh Bannie.
A community driving school established by FG Gold has graduated its first cohort, many of whom have joined the company as employees. Annette Coker, HR Superintendent, announced that FG Gold employs over 305 workers, adhering to international best practices for wages and labor standards.
Environmental efforts were highlighted by Nyake Mattia, HSE Lead, who detailed comprehensive ecological assessments, greenhouse gas emissions monitoring, and biodiversity management initiatives, including the planting of over 1,700 trees and a strict no-hunting policy. Community engagement was a focal point, with Community Relations Officer Evelyn Gyamfi-Hassan emphasizing collaboration with locals on initiatives such as breast cancer awareness and the implementation of a Community Development Agreement. The agreement outlines critical projects and ensures alignment with community needs.
The event concluded with an on-site tour of the mining facilities and community projects. Local leaders, including the Town Chief and Youth Chairman, praised FG Gold’s contributions, urging continued support. Paramount Chief Dr. Margaret Bayoh Bannie commended the company’s investments, stating, “Since the 1920s, FG Gold is the only company that has invested so extensively in the development of our Chiefdom.”
