The Financial Intelligence Agency (FIA) has initiated a two-day workshop in Bo City, focused on formulating a National Anti-Money Laundering, Counter-Terrorist Financing, and Counter-Proliferation Financing Strategy and Action Plan for the period 2025 to 2029.
The strategic effort is aimed at bolstering the country’s defenses against money laundering and financial crimes.
The workshop convenes key stakeholders, including representatives from government ministries, departments, agencies (MDAs), and international development partners, to collaborate on the strategy over the next two days.
FIA Director General David Borbor stressed the necessity of a comprehensive approach to combat those financial threats. He remarked that the strategy requires legal reforms, capacity building, international cooperation, technological innovation, and targeted enforcement actions.
Borbor further noted that through the implementation of the strategy, Sierra Leone will enhance its defenses against financial crimes, ensure the integrity of its financial systems, and contribute to broader regional and global efforts to combat “illicit finance.”
Notably, the initiative aligns with the vision of His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, who has poised to preventing Sierra Leone from becoming a refuge for money laundering, terrorist financing, and other financial offenses.
Further updates regarding the workshop’s progress will be provided as discussions continue.
