Sierra Leone’s Finance Minister, Sheku A.F. Bangura, has been appointed to chair the newly formed Africa Group 2 Constituency at the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

This development follows the restructuring of the former Africa Group 1, which represented Central and West African nations, aiming to enhance African representation in IMF decision-making.

Minister Bangura expressed gratitude for the appointment, committing to ensuring the group’s interests are strongly represented.

The new leadership team includes Benin as deputy chair, with The Gambia and Guinea-Bissau on the steering committee.

The restructuring signifies Africa’s growing influence in global economic governance. Bangura’s leadership is crucial as West African nations face economic challenges, and he aims to advocate for policies that address these issues within the IMF.

His role will focus on ensuring inclusive economic growth and better representation for the region.
