Sierra Leone’s former first lady, Sia Nyama Koroma’s sister, Finda Koroma, has penned a heartfelt tribute to the late Corporal Edward Conteh, who was killed during the failed coup attempt on November 26, 2023.

In a moving statement, Finda remembered Conteh as a devoted soldier and a beloved member of the Koroma family. She expressed her disbelief and sadness over his senseless killing, stating that he was “brutally shot and killed in front of the gates of the Goderich, Freetown residence of H.E. Dr. Ernest Koroma, former President of the Republic of Sierra Leone (2007-2018) on 26th November 2023 just after 3pm – a zone which was never part of the theatre of any fighting on that fateful day.”

She emphasized the importance of bringing justice to Conteh’s killers, assuring that the perpetrators would face the consequences of their actions. Finda also expressed the deep impact Conteh’s death had on the entire family, particularly his close bond with his “Mama di Mama” (greatest mother), the former First Lady.

The tribute concluded with a heartfelt message of remembrance and prayers for Conteh. Finda urged him to rest in peace, expressing her hope to reunite with him someday.

Her tribute reads below:

“Remembering our beloved ‘Eddy’, the Late Corporal Edward Conteh – Republic Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) 18179051, Transport Squadron (TPT), Joint Logistics Unit, Joint Force Command Headquarters, who was brutally shot and killed in front of the gates of the Goderich, Freetown residence of H.E. Dr. Ernest Koroma, former President of the Republic of Sierra Leone (2007-2018) on 26th November 2023 just after 3pm – a zone which was never part of the theatre of any fighting on that fateful day.

“We are still dumbfounded by your senseless and unprovoked execution. We find strength in the knowledge that you have made your way to Paradise.

“Be rest assured that justice will be served for you at the appropriate time! Your killers will be brought to justice by a body of strong evidence! We truly miss your fun and laughter, most of all, we miss the joy you brought to the close protection security (military and police) detail and the civilian household staff of H.E. Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma. H.E. Sia Nyama Koroma, former First Lady of Sierra Leone (2007- 2018), my beloved eldest sister, whom you lovingly called ‘Mama di Mama’ – the greatest mother of all, is still struggling with your passing.

“We pray for you fervently every day. We have shed tears for you, every single day since your passing! Rest in Peace, Eddy! So long, until we meet again!”
