The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Sierra Leone has enhanced its digital security by participating in a cybersecurity awareness training organized by the National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre (NC3) on August 27, 2024.

The training, led by Victor A. Sesay, focused on equipping civil servants with essential risk management strategies such as password management, phishing recognition, and safe internet browsing to protect sensitive government data.

This initiative aligns with the Cybersecurity and Crime Act of 2021, which established NC3 as the primary agency for managing cybersecurity incidents in Sierra Leone.

Madam Gemma Pyne-Bailey emphasized secure communication practices in diplomatic exchanges, while practical responses to common cyber threats, such as WhatsApp scams, were also covered.

Kadijatu Alpha, Director of Europe at the Ministry, raised questions about the country’s cybersecurity protection mechanisms, with trainers highlighting ongoing efforts to develop comprehensive regulations and guidelines.

The Ministry appreciated NC3’s initiatives and acknowledged the importance of international frameworks like the Budapest Convention in fighting cybercrime.
