In a generous act of support for Fourah Bay College (FBC), Hon. Dr. Sidie Mohamed Sidie Tunis, the former Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, has donated ten thousand dollars ($10,000) to aid in the pavement and solarization of the college campus.
The donation, which was made following a compelling appeal by the Deputy Registrar of Fourah Bay College, was presented during a special ceremony marking the unveiling of a newly constructed bus stop at the airport and the modernized entrance and exit gates of the college.
Dr. Tunis, a prominent political figure and philanthropist, expressed his commitment to enhancing the educational infrastructure in Sierra Leone. During his address at the unveiling ceremony, he emphasized the importance of improving learning environments and ensuring that students have access to modern facilities that foster both academic success and environmental sustainability.
The funds from this generous donation will go toward paving pathways on campus and installing solar energy solutions, a step towards creating a greener and more energy-efficient learning space. The solarization project is part of FBC’s ongoing efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and ensure uninterrupted power supply for students and staff.
Deputy Registrar of FBC, in his appeal, highlighted the college’s continued efforts to modernize its infrastructure in response to the growing needs of its students and staff. He expressed deep gratitude for Dr. Tunis’s support, which will go a long way in improving the campus environment and contributing to the long-term sustainability of FBC.
The unveiling ceremony, which also marked the completion of the new bus stop and gates, was attended by faculty, staff, and students of the college, as well as key figures from local government and the private sector.
This significant contribution underscores the importance of community engagement and collaboration in advancing higher education in Sierra Leone. The solarization and pavement initiatives are expected to significantly enhance the quality of life at FBC, making it a more accessible and eco-friendly institution for future generations.
The Fourah Bay College community has expressed immense appreciation for the generous donation, with many hoping that it will inspire more private and public sector partnerships for the development of educational institutions in the country.
