In a shocking development, Ibrahim Nyelenkeh, former Sports Minister and current Chairman of the National Sports Authority, has sparked widespread controversy following his inflammatory remarks against Madam Femi Claudius Cole, a former presidential candidate for the Unity Party.

In his X page, Nyelenkeh reportedly threatened Cole, stating that if “they” attempted “anything stupid,” they would be “burnt alive.”

He further described Cole using derogatory language, calling her an “idiot” and an “astray dog.” The remarks, perceived as both violent and demeaning, have ignited outrage across political and social circles.

Madam Cole, known for her leadership and outspoken nature, expressed deep distress over the comments, describing them as not only defamatory but also a grave threat to her personal safety.

“This is a new low in our politics,” she stated in a brief response, urging authorities to address the rising tide of political intolerance.

Human rights groups and political commentators have condemned Nyelenkeh’s remarks, calling for accountability and an urgent intervention to ensure the safety of political leaders and the maintenance of civil discourse.

“This kind of language has no place in a democracy. It sets a dangerous precedent,” said a representative from a leading civil rights organization.

As public uproar grows, many are calling for an investigation into the incident and demanding that Nyelenkeh publicly retract his statements. Despite the mounting backlash, Nyelenkeh has yet to issue a formal apology or clarification.
