Sierra Leone’s Minister of Energy, Alhaji Kanja Sesay, dispelled rumors of an impending blackout in the capital city. He addressed concerns surrounding the Turkish Kapowership, a key contributor to Freetown’s energy supply, and its potential departure due to unpaid government debts.

“There is absolutely no truth to the claims that Freetown will be plunged into darkness,” Minister Sesay declared. He acknowledged outstanding payments to the Kapowership but emphasized, “These debts are being actively addressed and will be settled.”

He attributed the delays to global economic challenges, assuring the public, “We are working diligently to navigate these difficulties and ensure uninterrupted power supply.”

Minister Sesay urged residents to remain calm and trust the government’s commitment to providing stable electricity. “We are taking all necessary steps to keep the lights on in Freetown,” he stated.

“This administration is fully dedicated to illuminating the city and ensuring its continued development.”
