In the morning hours of Tuesday, September 27, 2022, the Mayor of Freetown Municipality, Her Worship Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, visited the bereaved families in the aftermath of collapsed wall fences at Spur Loop and Sea View Communities.

The Mayor spent some time consoling the bereaved families while delivering a small purse of support to them at these trying times.

In a similar move, On the 23rd of September, 2022, Deputy Mayor Osman Koroma and Gabriel Halloway of the Freetown City Council (FCC) Disaster Risk Management Unit visited Flood affected victims who lost their properties during the rain at Somalia Town and Tenbeh Town Communities and delivered a small purse to 3 people in Somalia Town and 40 Households in Tengbeh Town.

As all of these disasters continue to destroy lives and properties, mostly as the direct results of poor land use and planning, Council continues to advocate for the devolution of land use planning, building regulations, and building permits to all local Councils so that construction, especially at hillside communities is better regulated to avoid indiscriminate deforestation and the associated erosion, which fills our gutters and waterways with silt every year, thus causing havoc.

“Our hearts go out to the bereaved families and individuals who lost their properties during this tragic moment”.
