Today, Thursday 20th April 2023, the late Policeman ASP Matthew Moiwah Gbanya was laid to rest at the Police Training School, where final funeral rites were performed before the burial.

Members of the Security forces, close friends, and relatives attended the ceremony to pay their respects.

During their weekly police media update on Tuesday 18th April 2023 at the Sierra Leone police headquarters, Detective Inspector Joshua Moisa from the Criminal Investigation Department headquarters informed journalists that all 31 suspects who were arrested in Makeni station as a result of the killing of ASP Gbanya, the Regional Commander for the North, have been released.

Detective Inspector Moisa confirmed that random arrests were made during their execution of duty to bring the perpetrators to book. However, after thorough screening of all 31 suspects, they were not able to gather enough evidence from them.

He further revealed that despite the release, the investigation is ongoing to identify the perpetrators.

He confirmed that the late Gbanya was shot at short range inside his private vehicle on Station Road in Makeni.

Detective Inspector Moisa also confirmed that Gbanya had spent the Easter holiday with his family, who had visited him in Makeni before his tragic demise.
