Former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice of Sierra Leone, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara has expressed dissatisfaction over the operations of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) ahead of June’s general elections.

In a post shared on Twitter, he said that the law requires registration, a total update and a revision of the voters register later than 6 months before elections.

‘’The law requires registration, updating and revision of voters register, to be conducted not later than 6 months, before an election (S.18 PEA 2022),” Kamara stated.

He added that, it is almost 3 months to the June elections, and the country has yet to receive disaggregated data-ward, constituency and even voter cards.

Making reference to past bye elections in some parts of the country, the former Attorney General claimed that, the commission’s staff was in favour of the candidate of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).

‘’Recalling, that Electoral Commission staff, during the Sambaia-Bendugu, council bye elections, ward 155, changed figures 049 to 149 in favour of the candidate of the Ruling party,’’ he alleged.
