The governments of Germany, United Kingdom, and the European Union (EU) delegation in Sierra Leone have in different statements condemned the attempted seizure of a military barracks in the nation’s capital Freetown.

In its own statement, the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) strongly condemned the violence in Freetown and called on British nationals in Sierra Leone to abide by the current nationwide curfew. The FCDO also stated that its consular staff are available 24/7 to provide support.

The international community’s condemnation of the attack on the military barracks and its calls for a peaceful resolution to the situation demonstrate its strong support for Sierra Leone’s democracy and stability.

Similarly, the German Embassy in Sierra Leone condemned the “unjustifiable attack on Wilberforce Baracks this morning” and called for “full cooperation with the government to maintain the constitutional order and arrest those responsible.”

The embassy also urged everyone to “respect the curfew” and reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to working “hand in hand with all Sierra Leoneans for a peaceful, democratic, prosperous Sierra Leone governed by the rule of law.”

The European Union (EU) delegation in Sierra Leone also expressed concern about the news from Sierra Leone and called for the restoration of constitutional order. The EU also stated that it “strongly encourages everyone to follow the ongoing curfew” and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting “all those dedicated to a peaceful and democratic Sierra Leone.”

The governments of Germany, the United Kingdom, and the EU also made it clear that they will continue to work with Sierra Leoneans to achieve a peaceful and prosperous future for the country.

In their statement, the United Kingdom condemns the violence as well as maintaining that, they are closely monitoring the situation. They also called on the British nationals to abide by the current nationwide curfew.

“The UK strongly condemns the violence in Freetown this morning. We are monitoring the situation closely. British nationals in Sierra Leone should abide by the current nationwide curfew, and our consular staff are available 24/7 to provide support.

The European Union also maintained that they are concerned about news from Sierra Leone and called for the respect of constitutional orders to be restored. They further maintained that, they will continue to give total support to all those that are dedicated to a peaceful and democratic order in the country.

“EU is concerned about news from Sierra Leone. EU calls for constitutional order to be respected. There is no justification for forceful seizure of military barracks. We strongly encourage everyone to follow the ongoing curfew. EU will continue to support all those dedicated to a peaceful and democratic Sierra Leone”

In its own statement, Germany Embassy in Sierra Leone tweeted., “🇩🇪condemns the unjustifiable attack on Wilberforce Baracks this morning.
