On Thursday, May 2nd, 2024, the Minister of Works and Public Assets, Dr. Denis Sandy, welcomed the highly skilled Chinese team to his office in Newton, Freetown.

The purpose of their visit was to commence repairs on the Youyi Building lifts, a project that has been long-awaited by the citizens of Sierra Leone. With a strong determination and a clear goal in mind, the team is set to begin their work on Friday and complete it within a maximum of 5 weeks.

The Youyi Building, a structure emblematic of Freetown, has been a significant part of the city’s landscape for decades. However, over time, the lifts have been plagued by technical issues, causing major disruptions to the building’s daily operations.

Dr. Sandy’s initiative to engage the expertise of Chinese professionals underscores his commitment to improving infrastructure and facilitating development projects in Sierra Leone. The successful completion of this project will not only restore functionality to the lifts but also contribute to the overall improvement of public services in Freetown.

As the Minister of Works and Public Assets, Dr. Denis Sandy has assured the public that the government is closely monitoring the progress of the project to ensure its timely completion.

He emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in delivering services to the people of Sierra Leone and reiterated the government’s commitment to meeting the expectations of its citizens.
