Sierra Leone is on the brink of a groundbreaking agricultural transformation with the unveiling of the Golley Agricultural Development Sierra Leone Limited’s multi-million dollar investment. Founded by former Ambassador to South Korea, Omrie Golley, the venture is set to introduce Drip Irrigation, a cutting-edge system that promises to defy traditional seasonality in crop production.

Drip irrigation involves strategically placing tubing with emitters on the ground alongside plants, ensuring a consistent supply of water to the root zone. This meticulous approach not only optimizes moisture levels but also enhances plant productivity and quality, allowing for year-round cultivation of various crops.

With the completion of four agricultural training centers in Port Loko, Bumbuna, Bo, and Kenema, the project has already empowered over 200 Sierra Leoneans with the skills needed for efficient drip irrigation. This skilled workforce is poised to play a pivotal role in the actualization of this ambitious agricultural initiative.

In a strategic partnership with irrigation experts from Israel, where this system has proven highly successful, the Golley Agricultural Group has completed a pilot phase and is now transitioning into full-scale commercialization. The project encompasses the cultivation of hundreds of acres of land, dedicated to high-value crops that not only cater to the local market but also hold export potential.

Ambassador Omrie Golley expressed his optimism, stating, “We have set our footprints in the sands of time…this project will see us unleashing the greatest human resource and agricultural potential in Sierra Leone. We are going to be very deliberate in helping Sierra Leone to feed itself.”

To propel the initiative forward, modern irrigation equipment has already arrived in the country, with additional shipments en route. The Golley Agricultural Development Sierra Leone Limited is poised to redefine the agricultural landscape, bringing forth a new era of sustainable and year-round crop production in Sierra Leone.
