In a bid to implement the international-mediated agreement with the opposition All Peoples Congress party, the government of Sierra Leone has announced in a press statement, the launch of the Committee on Electoral Systems and Management Bodies, as agreed in the mediated dialogue.

“A key resolution emerging from the mediated ‘Agreement for National Unity’ between the Government of Sierra Leone (GoSL) and the All Peoples Congress Party (APC) calls for the “constitution of a Cross Party Committee on Electoral Systems and Management Bodies Review with a three-way Leadership’’. Part of the press statement reads.

In a series of follow up engagements between the Government of Sierra Leone and the All Peoples Congress Party, the government stated that it was agreed that the APC nominate up to seven members for the Committee.

With respect to the above, it noted that the President, Dr. Julius Maada Bio has accepted the nominees in addition to an inclusive broad-based stakeholder representation for the Committee.

To commence the process of operationalization of the Committee, the government has decided to hold a formal Launch ceremony of the Committee on Electoral systems and Management Bodies Review by His Excellency the President Brig. Rtd. Dr. Julius Maada Bio, in State House on Tuesday 21st November 2023 at 4:00pm.

The Official Launch is to be preceded by Statements from representatives of the Development partners, the All Peoples Congress (APC) Party and the Government of Sierra Leone (GoSL).

The Launch of the Committee on Electoral Systems and Management Bodies Review will mark the commencement date of the review process. This initiative to launch the Committee is being done in the spirit of openness so that the Public is aware of efforts by the ‘Parties’ to implement the Resolutions as set out in the ‘Agreement for National unity’ signed at the Bintumani Hotel on Wednesday 18th October 2023.
