The Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs, has unveiled plans for the upcoming inauguration of the newly elected Mayors/Chairpersons, their Deputies, and Councilors representing the 22 Local Councils in Sierra Leone.

In an official statement, the Ministry conveyed that the Honorable Vice President, also serving as the Chairman of the Inter Ministerial Committee on Local Governance, will preside over the official inauguration proceedings.

This significant event is scheduled to unfold across Sierra Leone’s five regional headquarters as follows:

Southern Region: The ceremony will commence on Thursday, 10th August, 2023, at the Bo District Council Hall, with proceedings set to begin promptly at 9:00 am.

Eastern Region: On Friday, 11th August, 2023, the Kenema City Council Hall will host the inauguration for the Eastern Region, commencing at 9:00 am.

Western Urban/Rural: The Freetown City Council Hall will witness the event on Tuesday, 15th August, 2023, starting at 9:00 am.

North West Region: Wednesday, 16th August, 2023, is earmarked for the ceremony at the Port Loko District Council Hall, scheduled to commence at 9:00 am.

Northern Region: Concluding the series of inaugurals, the Bombali District Council Hall will be the venue on Tuesday, 22nd August, 2023, with proceedings beginning at 9:00 am.

The Ministry urges all relevant parties to ensure that the elected Mayors/Chairpersons, Deputies, and Councilors are duly informed of these vital developments.

Moreover, they stress the significance of widespread publicity through local print and electronic media channels. Paramount Chiefs currently in office are also cordially invited to grace this auspicious occasion.
