The Sierra Leone Electricity and Water Regulatory Commission (SLEWRC) has announced approved selling prices for sachet water across the country, warning that any producer, distributor, or wholesaler found charging above the set rates will face enforcement actions.
In a public notice issued from its headquarters at No. 1 Samuel Bamtor Drive, Hill Station, Wilberforce, the Commission said the approved factory price is NLe 9.00 per bundle, while the wholesale price is NLe 10.00 per bundle.
The Commission emphasised that no producer, distributor, or wholesaler shall sell sachet water above these approved prices.
SLEWRC also advised that operators selling below the approved prices must ensure that such pricing does not result in a reduction in quality, safety, hygiene, or production standards, adding that consumers are entitled to safe and quality drinking water at all times.
The Commission reminded all sachet water producers that the approved standard volume for sachet water remains 500 millilitres (500ml). Producers must not reduce the quantity of water in sachets below the approved standard in an attempt to offset production costs or lower prices. Any deviation from this standard without the approval of the Commission and other relevant authorities will constitute a breach of regulatory requirements.
SLEWRC encouraged members of the public to report any sachet water producer, distributor, or wholesaler who sells above the approved prices, produces or sells sachet water below the approved 500ml standard, compromises quality, hygiene, or safety standards, or engages in any practice that violates the Commission’s directives.
Reports and complaints can be made directly to the Commission via Call or WhatsApp on +232 78 359299. The Commission stated that all reports will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to protecting consumers, ensuring compliance, and promoting the availability of safe, affordable, and quality packaged drinking water throughout Sierra Leone.
