The Sierra Leone President, Julius Maada Bio has given hope to Sierra Leoneans during his annual New Year’s Eve Speech.
“My government is committed to turning challenges to opportunities,” the President said.
He added that his commitment is in line with the government and that they are fully is fully committed to diligently implementing the medium term national Development Plan 2024-2030 for irreversible progress for the country particularly through the Big 5 game changers.
The president added that, in the year ahead, his government will redouble their efforts to create jobs, support local businesses and attract investments that will drive sustainable economic growth and ensure a brighter future for all Sierra Leoneans.
“As a government, our primary focus is on growing the economy to enhance the quality of life of every citizen, ensuring that no one is left behind in our journey of progress,” Bio stated. He added that his administration is also working to ensure that they stabilise the economy through the reduction of inflation from double digits and single digits this year.
He stated that, with the support of their international partners, they will keep addressing the adverse effects of global economic challenges on the local economy to preserve its growth path.
“We will continue to pay salaries regularly, keep food and fuel on the market at reasonable prices, increase agricultural productivity and improve the contribution of the mining sector and manufacturing to our GDP,” he said.
Sierra Leone’s economy enjoyed some stability in the final quarter of 2024 after months of downfall which the government blames on external shocks like the war in Ukraine and the 2019 Coronavirus.
The shocks reduced the country’s economy to the doldrums leading to massive inflation and a drop in the value of their local currency, the Leone.
With the little stability experienced by Sierra Leoneans in the past couple of months, locals are hopeful of a brighter 2025.
May Almighty Allah gide you through the straight paths
For intentions you have for our beautiful country ❤️ Sierra Leone 🇸🇱
